The "I'm initiative" by windows live

The "I'm initiative" by windows live is a new feature for windows live messenger 8.1 (and the new beta found here: It is really cool, because it alows you to rais money for charitys, or any cause you like, without spending a penny. It helps you to do what you do already, and adds to it. The only thing you have to do, is continue to instant message your friends using windows live messenger. Then, just change your IM name to one of the causes listed here:
and below:
*red+u American Red Cross
*bgca Boys & Girls Clubs of America
*hsus Humane Society of the United States
*naf National AIDS Fund
*mssoc National MS Society
*sierra Sierra Club
*komen Susan G. Komen for the Cure
*unicef U.S. Fund for UNICEF

for example, say your current IM nickname is Bill, all you have to do is change it to Bill*red+u (or any of the others above) and your done. (dont worry..It comes out looking like the i'm in this picture:
What this does, is it makes it so that microsoft will automatically donate to the charity you put in your name, every time you send a message to one of your friends.
Cool right? Well get started IMing!

Hi Rachel,
I'm actually not sure if the i'm initiative works on microsoft messenger for mac, I do know however that it does work for hotmail. I'm not sure if you can change your display name on a mac (for microsoft messenger) but if you can, then you could always add the string there.
Hope that helped!
